Socks

My little Hayden is such a little smartie pants.
She has gotten big so fast that sometimes I underestimate her.

I have always talked to her like she was a big girl.
Even as a newborn asking her questions like,
"Would you like this lotion or that one?"
"Do you want to wear the pink bow or the blue bow?"
Not expecting an answer, just me talking all the time.

And as she has gotten older I continue to talk to her like she is older than she is.
Saying things like,
"Okay, go get your shoes on so we can go to the store."
"Can you go clean up all your toys and wash your hands for dinner?"
To a baby who has just learned to crawl.
Again, not expecting her to actually do these things.

Well, the other day we were getting ready to go to the store.
I was sitting nursing Carter, and I asked Hayden to get her sandals out (this one she CAN do).
Of course (as always) she brings me her sneakers instead.
The next few minutes went like this,

Me: "Well, if you want to wear those, you are going to have to go up to your room and get some socks."
Hayden: "Okay, Momma."

And she headed up the stairs.
It's not unusual for her to pretend like she knows what i'm talking about
and head off to do it, just to get there, find some toys and start playing.
Not to mention that her socks are in the top drawer of her dresser.
I don't think she can reach the handle,
or even have the strength to pull the big heavy drawer open.

But, I could hear her little feet running across the hardwood upstairs,
so I knew she had found something to do.

After about 5 minutes.
I yell up at her.
Me: "Hayden, we gotta go. Did you get your socks?"
Hayden: "Yes, Momma."
Me: "Well, bring them down and let's go."
Hayden: "Okay, Momma."

Knowing full well she would come down empty handed and I would just make a quick trip up to get her some socks.

About 5 MORE minutes later she still hasn't arrived downstairs.
So again I yell up,
Me: "Hayden, come downstairs so we can go."
Hayden: "Momma, I am." Then a whine of frustration.
This time her voice was close, I could tell she was on the stairs.

I walk over, look up and see this.

My sweet little lady had in fact found, opened the sock drawer,
and retrieved not one pair of socks but EVERY sock in the drawer.

She was struggling down the stairs because she kept dropping one,
then when she would try to pick it back up, she would drop more.

She was so happy to see me.

Hayden: "Momma, help please."
Me: "You got it cutie, just let me get a couple pictures first."
Hayden: "Okay, Momma, hurry."

I guess I need to stop underestimating my little, big girl.
